New Harvest Coffee Roasters

Providence, RI

New Harvest Coffee Roasters was founded in 2000 by Rik Kleinfeldt and Paula Anderson with the mission of making extraordinary coffee accessible to real people. The company began with humble origins when Rik roasted solo in an industrial shed at the old Washburn Wire factory. Today, New Harvest has evolved into a seasoned team producing what they consider the best coffee in Rhode Island from their location at the eco-friendly Farm Fresh Food Hub in Providence. The roastery is built on three core values: locally-grown relationships, fun-driven culture, and community-building connections. Their commitment to quality and authenticity begins with long-standing relationships with family-owned farms. They see coffee as one of life's great pleasures and embrace a fun-driven approach, with their Coffee Monster serving as a friendly reminder that coffee is a daily ritual filled with joy. By bringing artisan coffee to New England, they create an extended coffee community that goes beyond just serving great coffee. New Harvest's Source Direct program, established in 2007, demonstrates their commitment to ethical sourcing. Roastery staff travel yearly to coffee farms in Central and South America, carefully sourcing coffees from trusted partners and directly from farmers and local cooperatives. They consistently pay at least 20% above the Fair Trade minimum for their Source Direct coffees and often more than double for direct trade specialty microlots, with some partnerships spanning over a decade, such as their relationship with Adolfo Reyes' Finca Los Portillos in Honduras since 2010. The team is committed to honoring the labor of the many people who tended and processed their beans through careful roasting, regular cuppings, and thoughtful packaging to ensure a consistently satisfying coffee experience. Their on-site cafe, Coffee & Spirits, features New Harvest coffees alongside a curated cocktail menu in a stunning space that overlooks their roasting operations, allowing customers to watch the roastery staff at work through glass windows while enjoying their beverages. New Harvest Coffee is widely distributed throughout the region at Whole Foods Markets and numerous wholesale partners. They offer educational programs including classes and tastings for both home brewers and professional baristas. The company maintains a strong commitment to community involvement, donating to and hosting fundraisers in partnership with local non-profit organizations, with particular focus on organizations dedicated to literacy, women's health, and the arts. Their product line includes an extensive range of single origin coffees, blends, and espressos, with popular offerings like their Monster Espresso, Organic French Roast, and seasonal selections. They also offer subscription services with 15% savings and provide brewing guidance through their educational resources. The roastery operates Monday through Friday from 9am-3pm, while their cafe maintains extended hours throughout the week, serving as both a retail location and community gathering space.
