Privacy Policy

Information you provide. If you subscribe to the Better Beans newsletter, we collect your email address and information about your subscription, such as confirmation and unsubscribe status. If you email us, we receive your email address and anything you include in your message.

Directory activity. When you follow a link to a roaster, coffee product, or social profile, we may record the type of link, the destination, the Better Beans page it appeared on, the related roaster or coffee, the time of the click, and broad browser and device categories. These records are not designed to identify you by name.

Analytics and technical information. Our hosting and analytics providers may process page views, referring pages, approximate location derived from an IP address, browser, operating system, device type, timestamps, performance measurements, IP address, and security logs. Better Beans uses Vercel Web Analytics, which reports aggregated analytics without analytics cookies and does not give Better Beans a persistent profile of an individual visitor.

We use service providers to run the site. They process information for us under their own terms and privacy commitments:

• Vercel for website hosting, performance monitoring, and aggregated web analytics.
• Supabase for database hosting, including directory click records.
• Kit (formerly ConvertKit) for newsletter signup, confirmation, delivery, and unsubscribe management.
• Google Maps Platform and, when stored map coordinates are unavailable, OpenStreetMap Nominatim for roaster maps and location lookup.

We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect rights or safety, investigate abuse, or complete a merger, financing, acquisition, or sale of assets. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Roaster pages may load Google Maps in your browser. Google may receive technical information such as your IP address and information about your device and map request. Better Beans does not request your device's precise location. Your use of Google Maps features is subject to the Google Privacy Policy and the Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms.

If a roaster does not have saved coordinates, the roaster's city and state may be sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to place the map marker. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation Privacy Policy.

Better Beans also links to roasters, shops, and social platforms we do not control. Their privacy practices apply after you leave Better Beans.

Vercel Web Analytics does not use analytics cookies. Better Beans uses temporary browser session storage to make back-navigation and pagination work as expected. Your browser settings can be used to clear or block browser storage, though doing so may affect these convenience features.

We retain information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described here, including providing the newsletter, measuring directory usefulness, maintaining security, resolving disputes, and meeting legal obligations. If you unsubscribe, we may keep a limited suppression record so we can honor that choice.

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards appropriate to the information we process. No online service can guarantee absolute security.

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter through the link in any newsletter email. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a copy of your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. We will not discriminate against you for making a privacy request.
