Portrait Coffee

Atlanta, GA

Portrait Coffee exists to reimagine the world of coffee. While coffee was first discovered by Africans, their faces have largely been forgotten, even as the drink became one of the most consumed beverages globally. The company's name reflects a desire to change that picture. Founded in 2019 in Atlanta's historic West End neighborhood, Portrait Coffee has become a cornerstone of the local community. Their mission centers on pouring a new narrative by making specialty coffee more accessible and reimagining its history through the lens of Black excellence. The company is dedicated to creating opportunities in their community, particularly supporting Black and Brown entrepreneurs in an area rich in entrepreneurship and culture that is experiencing revitalization. Portrait Coffee bridges the past, present, and future of coffee by connecting producers, consumers, and roasters. Through initiatives like the Young Producers Program with Unblended Coffee, they help emerging farmers develop their profiles risk-free. They work directly with producers, learning from them and honoring their stories in every cup they serve. Since launching, Portrait Coffee has been featured on Good Morning America, won awards including the Google Black Founders Fund and Sprudge's Most Notable Roaster, and has been recognized by publications like Food and Wine, CBS News, Atlanta Eater, and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Their commitment to community, quality, and reimagining coffee's narrative continues to make them a significant presence in Atlanta's specialty coffee scene.
