Flying M Coffee was founded in 1992 by Kevin and Lisa Myers along with their friend Kirk Montgomery. The trio, who met while attending the University of Washington in Seattle, witnessed the rise of the Northwest coffee movement and decided to bring that passion to Idaho. Originally opening in Boise at 235 N 5th Street before quickly expanding to their current beloved location at 500 W Idaho St, Flying M has become a cornerstone of Idaho's coffee culture.
In 1995, Kevin Myers began roasting on a 12 kilo purple Diedrich drum roaster, consciously sourcing and roasting coffee beans that would define Flying M's signature flavors.
Today, all coffee is expertly roasted at their Nampa location, which opened in 2006 in a renovated 6,000 square foot Firestone garage that now houses an espresso bar, pastry counter, gift shop, and roasting facility.
In 2023, they upgraded to a state-of-the-art Loring S35 Kestrel roaster and added a dedicated tasting room for cupping sessions and classes.
Flying M is known for its quality coffee, quirky gifts, mismatched furniture, and welcoming atmosphere. From 1994-2019, they hosted the annual Flying M Valentine for AIDS art show, raising over half a million dollars for local HIV/AIDS support.
The company has expanded to four locations across Idaho - Boise, Nampa, Caldwell, and McCall - each maintaining the unique Flying M spirit while serving their communities.
The business has remained family-oriented, with locations now owned by second-generation family members and long-time employees, including Kevin and Lisa's daughter Chloe and her husband Adam, who purchased the Nampa location in 2020.
Flying M Coffee continues to be recognized as a leader in Idaho's specialty coffee scene, with the Boise location repeatedly winning "Best of Boise" awards. Their commitment to quality roasting, community engagement, and creating gathering spaces has made them a beloved institution throughout the Treasure Valley and beyond.
