Established in the small town of Ruston, LA, Jelks Gourmet Coffee Roasters traces its roots back to 1896. It was the brainchild of the F. E. Morgan family, with Frank Morgan being a passionate coffee roaster. A key principle he lived by was, "Freshness equals quality". This philosophy guided the daily roasting and distribution process.
Harvey Jelks, in 1972, took a revolutionary step. He launched Jelks Inc., bringing a fresh coffee brewing concept to Ruston offices. With his modern equipment, a 45-minute brewing process was slashed to just four minutes for 12 cups of coffee, ensuring a fresher, more aromatic beverage.
When 1978 arrived, a merger was on the horizon. Jelks, now based in Shreveport, and Morgan came together, creating Jelks Coffee Roasters. Their mission: to carry forward the legacy of delivering fresh, premium coffee. To keep pace with their burgeoning customer base, they invested in a larger roaster.
The period between 1979 and 1980 brought about a shift in taste preferences, with flavored coffee starting to gain popularity. Initially offering five flavors, Jelks gradually expanded its repertoire. Today, they boast over 200 unique, fresh-roasted flavors. Their approach to flavored coffee is distinctive, preferring a gourmet blend over a single origin bean. The philosophy is simple, "Like good water for a good cup of coffee, use the best coffee for flavored coffee."
